Report of the Chinese Promotion work in Jiangsu Yancheng Middle School
Introduction
Set up in 1927, Jiangsu Yancheng Middle School is a National Model School, Four-star School in Jiangsu Province, Advanced Unit of National Education and Promotion of Cultural and Ideological Progress. In 2006, Jiangsu Yancheng Middle School Education Group was formed, including three schools and four campuses of more than 640 mu (about 106 acres). The group now has a staff of 751 members and 12205 students. In recent years, the group has been sticking to its principles of “being students-oriented and seeking life-long development”, pursuing harmonious development of all the teachers and students as its core values and exploring all possible means of development of teachers and students. In 2010, the group established the International Affair Office, focusing on international communication. In 2007, the school was entitled as the Chinese Education Base, and it became the School Base for Chinese International Promotion. In 2011, the construction and the educational quality were assessed by Department of Education of Jiangsu Province and was entitled as the Advanced School of International Communication of Education in Jiangsu Province.

Principle
We should raise the awareness and promote the importance of Chinese international promotion, especially for the need of Chinese study in foreign cultures, the spread of Chinese culture and the development of our nation’s economy. With gradual and stable steps to promote Chinese, it’s also a perfect chance for the world to know our nation, province and city for the better. Meanwhile, in our daily work, it’s necessary to combine the promotion with the school’s curriculum and international communication.
Focus
We’ve already provided three well-decorated classrooms for students and three well-furnished apartments for teachers. The English website has been established as a window through which to communicate with the outside world. (http//www.ycmiddleschool.com)
Xiao Ruhong, Wang Liyuan, Yue Longfei and Wang Yan have been chose to receive the specialized training on Chinese promotion from the Department of Education, and they all have been included in the list of the national backing teachers for Chinese promotion.
Introduction of Chinese culture I --- Courses of Chinese Promotion has been published with local cultural features and the school’s current curriculum included.
In Sep 2011, our sister school---Stawell Secondary College sent a visiting mission of 14 teachers and students in all to spend a week in our school for Chinese study.
In Sep 2011, and sighed an agreement on sister-school relationship. Both sides wish to further understand respective culture through regular visits, internet means and the Confucius Classroom.
In Nov 2011, Leila Moog and Stephanie Brown, teachers of the K12 Chinese Bridge Program, visited our school. They experienced how we teach the foreign students Chinese in the E-library of Chinese Promotion and the salt culture of the city.
Blueprint
As the Base of Salt Culture Promotion, the research of salt culture has been considered as a key subject in the province. In 2012, we will construct a hall of salt culture, the laboratories and a new library concerning the salt culture. A new website of the courses on salt culture will be online as a new window for the foreigners to familiarize and experience the local salt culture and its rich history, which meanwhile can enrich our school’s Chinese promotion curriculum. |
